We run a fleet of 14 trucks under FRSC commercial guidelines, and the first month with Natwestcards' RFID asset tagging system has been instructive. The initial setup took two full days — their team mounted passive UHF readers at our main depot and tagged every removable asset: spare tyres, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and even the reflective triangles required by regulation.
The most immediate change was during the weekly compliance inspection. Instead of a driver walking the lot with a clipboard, we now scan the entire yard in under four minutes. The system flags any asset that is missing or out of range, and we get a report that matches the FRSC format directly. Our inspection pass rate went from 82% to 97% in the first three weeks, mainly because we caught missing items before the vehicle left the gate.
There was one hiccup: the readers initially had trouble with the metal-bodied fire extinguishers. The Natwestcards technician came back on day six, adjusted the antenna angle, and swapped the tags to a high-temperature variant. That fixed the read rate, and we have not had a missed scan since. The support was responsive, but I would have preferred that the metal-environment tuning happened during the initial install rather than after a callback.
On the software side, the dashboard shows each vehicle's asset status by route. We can see which trucks are fully compliant before they depart. The data also feeds into our maintenance schedule — for example, the system logs how many times a first-aid kit is accessed, so we know when to restock without guessing. That kind of detail is useful for a fleet manager who needs to justify every expense to the owner.
After one month, the system has reduced our manual paperwork by roughly six hours per week. The upfront cost was significant, but the time savings and compliance improvement make it a practical investment for any fleet operating under FRSC rules. I would recommend it to other logistics operators, especially those who are tired of chasing missing assets before an inspection.
